Ukraine will sign the Association Agreement with the European Union first, and then it will search for a compromise with Russia on cooperation with the Customs Union, Regions Party parliamentary faction MP Volodymyr Vecherko has said in an interview with Channel 5 on Sunday, December 23.

“We have not applied for joining the Customs Union and we won’t do this in the near future. First of all, we have to deal with the signing of the Association Agreement with the European countries, and we also have to reach a compromise with the Russian Federation,” he said.

Vecherko added that the majority of the population of Ukraine does not support the idea of joining the Customs Union.

“Western Ukraine will not support the accession to the Customs Union, Central and Eastern Ukraine are still thinking about the issue,” the MP said.
