The Agriculture Ministry of Ukraine is anxious over the current situation with farm machinery for the sowing campaign, Deputy Agriculture Minister Oleksandr Shevchenko has said in an interview with the Agrarny Tyzhden newspaper.

“In spite of the fact that [the country’s] tractors are 87% ready, and tillage machines and sowing machines are almost 90% ready, in general the situation is disturbing,” he said.

According to Shevchenko, the farms have 50-65% of the machines they need. Moreover, 80-85% of the machines and tractors have already exceeded their operational lifespan.

“Machines are aging, while the load on them is increasing, and this could delay the sowing campaign,” Shevchenko said.
