You're reading: Ukraine’s CIS membership requires certain agreements to be analyzed

Ukraine's membership in the Commonwealth of the Independent States (CIS) is a subject for a thorough analysis of a number of agreements in the framework of the organization's membership, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has said.

“CIS membership is not an option for Ukraine in the future,” Klimkin said during the Verkhovna Rada Foreign Affairs Committee’s session in Kyiv on Friday.

According to the minister, Ukraine actually is not present in the CIS, doesn’t take part in its meetings. However, there are issues related to certain agreements, for example, on pension provision.

“I’ve sent to my colleagues-ministers a question on how to resolve this. And as soon as we have a clear picture, we will gather, exchange our opinions, and determine the terms and how to work further on,” Klimkin added.
