Ukraine's government is not to prolong the restrictions on grain exports, including quotas, after July 1, 2011, Agrarian Policy Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk has said.

"The government has decided not to apply impose any restrictions, including quotas on grain exports, starting from July 1," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.

The minister said that stability of the domestic grain market after the lifting of export restrictions would be achieved through the mechanism of forward purchasing.

As reported, in early October 2010, the Ukrainian government introduced quotas on grain exports until December 31, 2010. At the end of last year, the quotas were extended until March 31, 2011. The total size of the quotas was increased by 1.5 million tonnes, to 4.2 million tonnes.

On March 30, 2011, the government issued a resolution on the prolongation of grain export quotas until June 30, 2011.

Since October 2010, the quotas were distributed twice in a way that was sharply criticized by market operators, as most of the companies were unable to receive the grain availability certificates from the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry that they needed to apply for the quotas.
