You're reading: Ukraine’s leaders to pray for country on Independence Day at monument to Volodymyr the Great

Ukraine's leadership will take part in a celebration of the Day of the National Flag and the Independence Day of Ukraine in Kyiv on August 23 and 24.

“Events attended by the president of Ukraine and the country’s top officials will be held in Kyiv. A flag raising ceremony will be held on August 23,” Director of the Public Communications Department of Kyiv City State Administration Maryna Honda said at the administration’s meeting dedicated to the preparation for the celebration of the 22nd anniversary Ukraine’s independence in the capital city.

According to her, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych will raise the national flag on August 23 near the presidential administration.

On August 24, the president and other top officials will lay flowers at the monument to Taras Shevchenko and Mykhailo Hrushevsky. On the same day the country’s leadership will take part in a prayer for Ukraine at the monument to Prince Volodymyr the Great, Khonda said.
