The Ukrainian military has shot down a Russian Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in the anti-terrorist operation area near the town of Amvrosiyivka in Donetsk region, the ATO press center has reported.

“This us an example of hostile forces using [a drone] to point to a
target, with a following strike on a defended post of an Armed Forces of
Ukraine unit,” the report said on July 23.

The Orlan-10 is a multi-target unmanned aerial vehicle made by Special Technological Center Ltd., Saint Petersburg (Russia).

The Orlan-10 is a component of Russia’s air reconnaissance,
observation and monitoring complex. It is used by the Russia state
structures, in particular, the Russian Defense Ministry, as a
reconnaissance aircraft, which is capable of creating basic maps in 3D
and to provide information for combat operations. Depending on the
modification and module set up, the Orlan-10 UAV can carry on board a
thermovision camera, photo camera, video camera, radio transmitter, and
re-transmitter, and operate at distances of up to 120 kilometers from
base.

The ATO press center noted that on May 28 an Orlan-10 has already
been shot down in the east of Ukraine during the anti-terrorist
operation.
