A Ukrainian and three Pakistani nationals were injured and two Belarusians were killed in a road accident in Pakistan on September 29, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has reported.

“According to the Ukrainian Embassy in Pakistan, two citizens of Belarus were killed, whereas one Ukrainian and three citizens of Pakistan were injured in a road accident near the city of Gilgit on September 29,” Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Information Policy Department Yevhen Perebyinis said at a briefing on Tuesday.

He said that the car in which they were traveling had overturned and fell off a cliff.

“The Ukrainian citizen managed to jump out of the car, which saved his life,” Perebyinis said.

He said that the victim, with a broken arm and leg injuries, was currently in a satisfactory condition in a hospital in Gilgit.

The Ukrainian Embassy in Pakistan constantly is maintaining contact with him and working out the question of his speedy delivery to Islamabad and further return to Ukraine.

In addition, the embassy is also coordinating work with Gilgit police officers and medical staff of the hospital in which the Ukrainian is being treated.

The Foreign Ministry also said that the Ukrainian was engaged in cycling. He arrived in Pakistan by bicycle from Iran and was heading to India.

“Representatives of the embassy warned him in advance about the poor security situation in Pakistan and also asked him to give up the trip and return to Ukraine, but he decided to continue the journey together with two cyclists from Belarus,” the ministry said.

“The embassy is overseeing the situation,” Perebyinis added.
