The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is checking reports about Ukrainians being among the crew of a tanker detained in Libya on June 28.

“We have received this information and are now verifying it,” Maksym Serhiyenko of the Foreign Ministry’s Consular Department told Interfax-Ukraine.

The information was passed for verification to Ukrainian diplomatic missions abroad, he said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said earlier that the Temeteron tanker sailing under the flag of Belize (a Central American state), which was carrying petrol, was detained off Libya on June 28. The crew includes Russians, Ukrainians and Greeks. The vessel and the sailors are in Tripoli.

“According to the information we obtained, among the vessel’s crew are five Russians, as well as Ukrainian and Greek citizens. The tanker was convoyed to the military port of Tripoli. All sailors are there at present,” the Russian ministry said.
