Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych believes that the Euro 2012 festival in Ukraine and Poland has been a success.

“I am grateful that Ukraine along with Poland has been given such an honor – to organize Euro 2012. And I think that this festival has been a success,” Yanukovych said at a meeting with FIFA President Joseph Blatter in Kyiv on Sunday.

Yanukovych noted that there had been doubts that this event would be held at a proper level. In addition, the Ukrainian president noted the pressure of political issues.

“But together with you we have overcome all this. And I am grateful to you for this,” the head of state said.

He also thanked UEFA President Michel Platini for his excellent job as a top manager. “I was a big fan of Platini, when he played football. But I did not know him as a manager, a functionary of the UEFA, and for me this has been a revelation,” Yanukovych said.

According to Yanukovych, organizers of international football competitions “have moved forward very seriously” lately.
