The wife of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov, Hanna, has escaped unhurt after being attacked on Wednesday with a knife by a Donetsk region resident who has arrived in Kyiv from the part of the region that is not controlled by Ukraine, the country's Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said.

“An armed attack was committed against Turchynov’s wife a few hours ago… The culprit attacked Hanna Turchynova right at the institute where she works. He attacked with a knife… The assailant is a Donetsk region resident who came from the occupied territory with the aim to attack the Turchynov family,” Avakov wrote on Facebook.

The main national police department for the city of Kyiv said no one was hurt in the incident but did not name those involved. “At around 4 p.m., an unknown man armed with a knife walked into the building of a higher-education institution and attacked a female employee. A security staff member, who happened to be nearby at the time, apprehended the assailant. Police arrived a few minutes later. Investigators are now working with the culprit. There are no casualties as a result of his actions,” the police said.
