The situation on the border between Ukraine and Russia is extremely tense, there is the threat of a large-scale invasion of Russia under the guise of a peacekeeping operation, acting Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations (UN) Oleksandr Pavlychenko said at the United Nations Security Council meeting on Aug. 8, which considered the current situation with human rights in Ukraine's east.

“We’ve got serious grounds to expect an open large-scale invasion of Russia under the guise of a peacekeeping operation,” Pavlychenko said.

Russia is building up its military presence, shells at Ukrainian counter-terrorism troops, Russian drones constantly violate the airspace of Ukraine, he said.

He stresses that any of the Russian forces cannot enter the territory of Ukraine without the consent of the Ukrainian authorities. “Any such invasion would be considered aggression, and this will be correspondingly addressed,” he said.
