United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said he was encouraged by the initial round of diplomatic negotiations on the crisis in Ukraine held in Geneva, but stressed that all sides need to "follow up words with deeds, as the situation remains extremely volatile."

According to UN press reports, the secretary said he was “encouraged”

resolution to this crisis.”

“He expects all sides, moving forward, to show their serious

implement the steps laid out in the Geneva Statement, which will
contribute to a lasting solution to this crisis,” the report from Ban
