A delegation of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) headed by Secretary Thomas Markert will arrive in Kyiv on Monday, November 29, according to the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia publication.

"The aim of the visit is to study the constitutional situation following the cancelation of amendments, introduced in 2004, to the main law," reads a posting on the Web site of the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia weekly newspaper.

According to Dzerkalo Tyzhnia, the European experts also plan to study judicial reforms in Ukraine and the plan for reform in the criminal justice system. The members of the Venice Commission delegation are to meet with Justice Minister Oleksandr Lavrynovych, Deputy Presidential Administration Head Andriy Porntov and MP Serhiy Holovaty.

Following the visit, the experts will submit their conclusions and recommendations.

In October, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) requested the opinion of the Venice Commission concerning the situation in Ukraine after the Constitutional Court’s decision to cancel the political reform of 2004 in Ukraine.
