Sevastopol – Sevastopol City Council has decided to activate the practice of engaging citizens to work as public order vigilantes.

Sevastopol City State Administration is to provide methodical assistance to local population in approving the regulations (by-laws) of such vigilante groups, coordinating their activities across the city and their ability to liaison with local offices of the Ukrainian central executive authorities, an Interfax correspondent said.

Sevastopol City State Administration shall, in cooperation with police, district state administrations and self-governments, organize such vigilante activities by recruiting for patrols and other events (involving law enforcement officers).

Also, training briefings and exchange of information will be held for vigilantes who will familiarize themselves with forms and methods of policing, and be provided with necessary gear and communication devices, as well as special individual protection and self-defense kits.

Sevastopol City Council’s communal property fund will until February have to submit proposals on lease out office facilities to vigilante groups.
