The decision to postpone the meeting of presidents of the Central European States is an image disaster for the current Ukrainian authorities and damaged Ukraine’s international image, UDAR Party leader Vitali Klitschko has told reporters, according to the party’s press service.

The politician said that statements by diplomats on the postponement of the summit effectively meant the cancellation of the event in Ukraine. Klitschko said that the authorities are not committed to taking into account the position of Ukrainian society and the international reaction to the unacceptability of human rights violations and electoral fairness. World leaders will not turn a blind eye to problems with democracy in Ukraine, he said.

"The government does not have the desire to change the situation and respond to calls from Kyiv’s European partners regarding the need to respect human rights and freedoms, and democratic standards. Ukraine is now a step away from international isolation," he said.

Klitschko said that the country’s reputation could be lost very quickly and that it would take a lot of time and effort to regain it. He said that the whole country was currently becoming hostage to misguided government policies.

Klitschko also expressed concern about the fact that there was currently a serious debate in Europe on a boycott of Euro 2012 matches in Ukraine. The politician said that he understands the position of the presidents who spoke about the unacceptability of the human rights situation in Ukraine and refused to attend the summit in Yalta, as it is their political decision.
