You're reading: Vlasenko: Kharkiv doctors, ‘concerned’ about Tymoshenko’s health, violated basic medical principle

KHARKIV – Serhiy Vlasenko, a defense lawyer for former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, has said that the Kharkiv doctors who decided to meet with a doctor from the Berlin-based Charite Clinic, Lutz Harms, in order to discuss the treatment of the ex-premier, have violated "a basic medical principle."

“This is a violation of a basic medical principle. Nobody has the
right to interfere in the treatment of a patient against his or her
will. And then some people suddenly became concerned about the treatment
of Tymoshenko. Let them be concerned about their families, wives and
children, rather than discuss issues that nobody asked them to discuss.
This is a violation of a basic medical principle,” he told
Interfax-Ukraine.

He said: “There is Yulia Volodymyrivna [Tymoshenko] who trusts
doctors treating her right now. And there are people who were telling
for six months that Tymoshenko has no illness, held a lot of press
conferences, issued certificates that she is healthy, and signed
documents that visiting court sessions could be held in the prison cell.
And now they suddenly became concerned about her health. It’s like the
Higher Specialized Court [for Civil and Criminal Cases] suddenly became
concerned about Tymoshenko’s rights, saying that it will not consider [a
cassation appeal on the gas case] in her absence, although by law her
presence is not mandatory.”
