You're reading: Vlasenko: Tymoshenko insists on attending investigatory proceedings on Scherban case

Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has submitted to the prison administration another written request demanding that they transport her to Kyiv in order to attend the interrogation of witnesses on the criminal case on the murder of Ukrainian parliamentarian Yevhen Scherban, who was shot dead in 1996, the ex-premier's defense lawyer, Serhiy Vlasenko, has said.

“Tymoshenko’s defense lawyer, Serhiy Sas, has just left Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 [where Tymoshenko is undergoing treatment]. Yulia Volodymyrivna has submitted another written request demanding that they take her to the court sitting tomorrow in order to attend the interrogation of a witness,” Vlasenko told journalists on Thursday after the completion of the interrogation of Ihor Maryinkov, who is a witness in the case.

Vlasenko again said that he is indignant at the fact that Tymoshenko is suspected of having organized the murder and that, at the same time, she is unable to attend the interrogation of witnesses.

“The authorities fear even her appearance!” Vlasenko said.

He also said that the deprivation of people of a chance to defend themselves under such consequences is a crime.

“Yulia Volodymyrivna demands that they let her be present at all of the court hearings. And yes, she realizes that there is no justice here,” he said.

While commenting on Maryinkov’s statement in court that in spring-summer 1996 Tymoshenko wore Louis Vuitton clothes, Vlasenko ironically noted: “I have just been told that Louis Vuitton presented its first line in 1998.”
