The registration of volunteers for work during the preparations for and hosting the Euro 2012 European Football Championship in Ukraine and Poland has been prolonged by two weeks, until Oct. 16.

"The local organizing committees in Ukraine and Poland decided to prolong the registration of volunteers on the official website of UEFA so that everyone who wishes could enter the competition to join a team of volunteers for this historic event," the Ukraine 2012 Information Center reported on Sept.28, 2011 with a reference to the Euro 2012 local organizing committee in Ukraine.

As reported earlier, electronic applications were to be made on the UEFA website from June 14 until Sept. 30.

After selection, the applicants will be interviewed in one of the four cities that will host the football championship.

Not only Ukrainians and Poles can become volunteers.

The main condition is knowledge of English, and to be over 18 years old. In addition, volunteers should have experience in the duties they choose.

About 6,000 volunteers will work at the tournament in both hosting countries.
