Crimea and Donbas will return under Ukrainian sovereignty same way as Ukrainian member of parliament Nadia Savchenko has returned to Ukraine, President Petro Poroshenko has said.

“We will return Crimea and Donbas under Ukrainian sovereignty as we have returned Nadia [Savchenko],” Poroshenko said in his statement on Savchenko’s return to Ukraine in Kyiv on May 25.

“I would like to thank for their active participation and support the whole of the world’s pro-Ukrainian coalition and leaders of these countries: German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande, U.S. President Barack Obama, leaders of the European Union member states, who took a joint decision to apply sanctions against the Russian Federation – all of them: Poland, Lithuania, Britain, Spain, Italy – all without exception. Leaders of far off Australia and far off Japan, who have clearly stated the rigid condition that Nadia Savchenko should return home,” Poroshenko said.

The head of state said that they expected the return of other Ukrainians, who are being held hostage in Russia and in the occupied territories to their homeland.

“It’s good that now Nadia will join this struggle. I want to stress that these steps would be impossible without the Minsk agreements, which clearly stated Russia’s commitment to release all the hostages,” Poroshenko said.
