President of the World Bank Group Jim Yong Kim has confirmed the bank's readiness to continue assisting the Ukrainian people in this difficult transition period and expressed hope the situation in the country would stabilize soon, he said this at a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk in Washington.

“We understand what difficult tasks Ukraine is now facing and welcome
the government’s readiness to carry out reforms, which are necessary to
stabilize the economy and return the country back on the way of
sustainable growth and development,” the WB president said.

The World Bank Group noted that on March 10 it announced its
readiness to support reforms and provide Ukraine with up to $3 billion
in 2014, adding that such an aid will be issued in addition to the
current program of investment and providing guarantees.

The current program worth $3.7 billion is aimed at improving the
provision of basic public services in such sectors as water supply,
sewage, electricity supply and roads, as well as support to the private
sector.
