KYIV, April 19 – A cache of 21 unexploded artillery shells from World War II were found near a suburban railway station near the capital Kyiv, Ukraine’s Emergency Situations Ministry said Friday. Emergency officials discovered the shells just before the evening rush hour Thursday. Train traffic was slowed while they were removed, and no injuries were reported.

Since January, Ukrainian officials have found 326 shells or other armaments from World War II, up from 285 during the same period last year. Ukraine was the site of heavy fighting between German and Soviet forces during World War II, and thousands of old munitions are discovered each year.
