Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has told President of the European People's Party (EPP) Wilfried Martens that Ukraine's drawing closer to the European Union is in both sides' common interest.

"I am convinced that making ties between Ukraine and the EU closer is in our common interests, and I’m ready to answer all of the questions you have," he said at a meeting with the EPP president in Kyiv on Sept.14.

Yanukovych thanked Martens for his interest in Ukraine.

"I’m ready to exchange views with you, inform you about the situation currently taking place in the country, what reforms are being conducted, what the government is doing, what the prospects are like, and what we want," he said.

Yanukovych also said he was happy to meet with the EPP president.
