Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a decree dismissing Viktor Tykhonov as Ukraine's ambassador to Belarus due to his election as an MP.

The decree, No. 655/2012, was posted on the Web site of the head of state on Monday.

In Ukraine’s parliamentary elections on October 28, Tykhonov claimed victory in single-seat constituency No. 113 (Luhansk region) as a representative of the Regions Party, and on November 6, he was recognized by the Central Election Commission as an MP of the seventh convocation.

As reported, Tykhonov was appointed Ukraine’s ambassador to Belarus on August 22, 2011. Previously, he served as deputy prime minister and minister for regional development, construction, housing and utilities. He was dismissed from this post on June 1, 2011.

Before Tykhonov, the post of Ukraine’s ambassador to Belarus was held by Roman Bezsmertny.
