You're reading: Yanukovych: European integration is Ukraine’s strategic priority

European integration is Ukraine's strategic priority, but relations with Russia, the United States, and China are also important to Ukraine, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

“European integration is our strategic priority,” Yanukovych said at a
meeting with the participants of the 11th conference of the heads of
Ukraine’s diplomatic missions abroad in Kyiv on Wednesday.

The president also noted that Ukraine should not neglect its current level of trade with Russia.

“Relations with the Russian Federation are also our priority, and we
will develop Ukrainian-Russian cooperation in future, and search for
solutions to current unsolved problems,” Yanukovych said.

“We’re working on these issues,” he added.

While speaking about relations with the U.S., the president described them as “very intensive.”

Yanukovych said these relations are based on common values and
interest in effective cooperation in many spheres of mutual interest.
