Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has examined the progress being made in building a road bridge in Kherson, the president's press service said on Thursday.

“The new road junction that is being built in the regional center
should noticeably improve the road service in the city,” reads the
statement.

Acting Head of the Urban Development and Architecture Department of
Kherson Regional State Administration Hryhoriy Khodin told the president
that the first part of the road bridge is being constructed now.

“Khodin also drew the attention of the head of state to the fact that
the implementation of the project will contribute to the development of
the infrastructure of a residential area, as well as the construction
of new housing there, particularly under the Affordable Housing targeted
program,” reads the statement.

As the president reported, financing for the building of the bridge in Kherson will be foreseen in the state budget 2013.

“Next year this facility will be definitely be included in the state
budget. We’ll finish this project,” the text quotes Yanukovych as
saying.

According to the project, the overall length of the road will be 2
kilometers, and its traffic capacity will total 2,000 vehicles per hour.
The building of the bridge started on June 15, 2012. The state fund for
regional development has already spent UAH 8.1 million on the project.
