Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said that all of the infrastructure for the Euro 2012 European Football Championship will be ready by the end of this year.

"This year we will finish the infrastructure for Euro 2012, which will later serve future generations and will be working for our country’s image," the president said during a meeting with WWII veterans in a medical center in the village of Tsibli, Kyiv region, on Wednesday.

Yanukovych recalled that the country had also applied to host the Winter Olympics in 2022.

"We have already applied for the 2022 Winter Olympics and we are currently working on it, we’ve also submitted a bid for the FIBA World Basketball Championship, the work is underway, and this championship will most likely take place in Ukraine," the president said.

The president did not specify for what year the latter application was made.
