Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said that the modernization of the Ukrainian gas transportation system (GTS) should take place with the participation of Europe.

“I’m convinced that we will need Europe to participate,” Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said at a joint press conference with Latvian counterpart Andris Berzins in Kyiv on Thursday while commenting on the modernization of the GTS.

The president also said that they would soon decide on the way in which the gas transportation system will be upgraded.

“Europe should not doubt that we will ship the necessary volumes of gas to Europe and we will guarantee the uninterrupted operation of this gas transportation system. We will certainly find the answer soon as to how we will hold the modernization of the Ukrainian GTS,” Yanukovych said.
