Newly appointed Chairman of the Crimean Council of Ministers and former Interior Minister Anatoliy Mohyliov is set to cooperate with the Crimean Tatars, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"I’m confident that there will be cooperation and positive [results]," he told journalists in Chernivtsi on Tuesday, when asked by Interfax-Ukraine whether Mohyliov’s appointment as Crimean prime minister could lead to the escalation of the interethnic situation on the peninsula and conflict with the Crimean Tatars.

Yanukovych noted that he had talked with Mohyliov about this on Tuesday.

He said that the newly appointed Crimean premier should pursue the traditions of his predecessor, Vasyl Dzharty, who, in his opinion, had succeeded in establishing cooperation with the Crimean Tatars.

"As for the Crimean Tatars, I told Mohyliov today that first and foremost, we should pay as much attention to them as they need. Secondly, the traditions that were launched by his predecessor, Vasyl Heorhiyovych Dzharty, should be continued. I believe that he [Dzharty] started effective cooperation, and it must be continued, and Mohyliov is set to do this," Yanukovych said.
