You're reading: Yanukovych: ‘No point in holding’ Pukach, Gongadze murder suspect

There are many unresolved issues in the investigation of journalist Georgy Gongadze's murder case, in particular with regard to those who ordered the murder, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"Those people, who have been dealing with these issues [so far], have lost a lot of time for various reasons, and there are currently lots of gaps in the investigation. They must be studied and cleared up, and from the legal point of view, they (the prosecutors) say that we still cannot submit such materials to court," the president said.

When asked about the probability of finding those who ordered the killing of the journalist, the president said: "There is always a chance, but we need proof."

At the same time, Yanukovych noted that the proceedings concerning General Oleksiy Pukach had been completed, and "there is no point in holding him any longer."
