Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has slammed the existing procedure for the re-registration of vehicle owners when a vehicle is sold, setting the task of reducing the time for such re-registration to one hour.

"Why should the vehicle’s registration be canceled during a sale? Why not to simply change the name of the owner?" the head of state said at an extended cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

He said that the procedure for paying fees to the Pension Fund during the sale of vehicles should be also revised.

"I believe that the reform in the sphere should continue, so citizens could re-register vehicles in one hour and no longer, and pay an economically justifiable price for this," the president said.

Yanukovych said that there should be a single state vehicle database in Ukraine.

"I think that the database should be launched in summer this year," he added.
