Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a law on simplifying the procedure for considering cases of administrative violations during mass sports and cultural events when the country is hosting the Euro 2012 European Football Championship, the presidential press service reported on July 22.

The Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on July 5. The law establishes a reduced procedure for considering cases of administrative violations committed during mass sports and other cultural events.

In particular, the law establishes a reduced term, within twenty-four hours, for the consideration of such cases by an empowered agency (court) or empowered person (Interior Ministry agency) and a reduction in the terms for filing appeals against rulings. The obligatory delivery of a violator to an empowered agency is introduced, and the term of arrest of a person is cut to twenty-four hours in order to ensure the prompt consideration of such cases and the fulfilment of rulings.

In addition, under the law, special premises will be created on the territory of sports facilities to hold detained persons.

The law also introduces a simplified procedure for considering cases on the deportation of foreigners and persons without citizenship who have committed violations.

The law comes into effect simultaneously with the beginning of hosting the finals of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship in Ukraine and ceases to be effective within 30 days of the end of the championship.
