NICOSIA - Ukraine support a fair solution to the Cyprus issue, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

“Ukraine supports mutually acceptable and fair solution to the Cyprus
dispute based on the international law and the relevant resolutions of
the UN Security Council,” he said in a press statement after the
Ukrainian-Cypriot talks on Thursday.

The Ukrainian president also said that during the talks, the parties
discussed the issues of cooperation in international organizations
during Ukraine’s chairmanship of the Organization for Security and
Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in 2013. According to Yanukovych, one of
the priorities of Ukraine’s chairmanship of OSCE will be promoting
conflict management.

The Cyprus conflict is the territorial conflict between the Republic
of Cyprus and Turkey, over the northern part of Cyprus occupied by
Turkey. At present, the territory of Cyprus is divided into two states –
the Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. In
2008 Dimitris Christofias won the presidential elections in the Republic
of Cyprus and restarted talks on reunification.
