You're reading: Yanukovych urges protesters to ‘end the confrontation’

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has called for an end to the current mass domestic protests.

“I appeal to all the citizens on all [protest sites] to calm down and
end the confrontation. Confrontations have never led to anything good.
It is my request that politicians – the government, the opposition –
should be given a chance to find a way out of this situation together,”
Yanukovych said in his final address at Friday’s roundtable in Kyiv.

He thanked opposition leaders for attending the roundtable. “It is
extremely important for us to talk about our future together,” he said.

The president also stressed Ukraine would follow its own course.
