The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has set upper markups for sales of medicine in Ukraine from January 1, 2013.

According to cabinet resolution No. 880 of September 24, 2012, for medicine priced up to Hr 100, a 25% markup can apply, for those from Hr 100 to Hr 300 – 23%, from Hr 300 to Hr 500 – 20%, from Hr 500 to Hr 1,000 – 15% and over Hr 1,000 – 10%.

Narcotic and psychotropic medicine, precursors and medical gases are exceptions to the rule.

From August 1, 2012 the first stage of the introduction of the state regulation of prices of medicine to treat hypertension was started in Ukraine. In some pharmacies the prices of the said category of medicine were reduced.

According to cabinet resolution No. 340 of April 25, 2012, on a pilot project on the introduction of the state regulation of prices of medicine for hypertension patients, the retail markup for medicine defined in order of Health Ministry No. 419 of June 1, 2012 cannot exceed 25% of the purchase price. However, the upper price cannot exceed 37.5% of the retail markup.
