Representatives of the European Parliament and the Central Election Commission (CEC) have discussed the course of the election campaign in Ukraine, the commission's press service has reported.

A meeting between CEC members Andriy Mahera and Mykhailo Okhendovsky and MEPs took place at the request of the European Parliament's election observation mission, which assesses the situation in Ukraine ahead of parliamentary elections.

The head of the European Parliament's election observation mission, Pawel Kowal, said that the mission would soon switch to the active stage of monitoring the electoral process and that the composition of a group of observers had already been determined for this purpose.

"In my opinion, this fact is a clear political signal to the further development of relations with Ukraine," he said.

Mahera, in turn, expressed hope for an objective assessment of the Ukrainian elections by official observers, which will be made after the monitoring of the entire electoral process.

CEC members also informed MEPs about the peculiarities of electoral law in Ukraine and discussed problems that arose during the elections.
