Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council supports language law, not declares Russian a regional language
Dnipropetrovsk – Deputies of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council have supported the law of Ukraine in the principles of the state language policy at a sitting on Friday.
Some 109 deputies supported the law, seven deputies voted against it, and one deputy refrained from voting.
The regional council decided to inform regional communities on the essence of the language law and on measures that should be taken for development, use and protection of Russian language and other minority languages that could be assigned with the status of regional language in the region.
The regional council also said that village and town councils of Dnipropetrovsk region should make decisions on giving minority language the status of regional language following preliminary discussions with citizens.
