You're reading: Fewer divorces registered in Ukraine in 2010

A low number of divorces was registered in Ukraine in 2010, the Justice Ministry’s press service has reported.

Some 126,000 couples divorced in 2010, which is almost 14% less than in 2009, and almost 25% less than in 2008.

At the same time, the number of marriages of Ukrainians exceeds the number of divorces by 2-4 times. In particular, over 300,000 marriages were registered in Ukraine in 2010, which exceeds the number of registered divorces by almost 2.5 times on average.

The best ratio of the number of marriages to the number of divorces was traditionally recorded in Zakarpattia region: there was one divorce for every four marriages in 2010.

In 2010, a high ratio of the number of marriages to the number of divorces was also recorded in Rivne, Volyn and Lviv regions, where there was one divorce for every 3.5 marriages, in Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk regions – there was one divorce for every three marriages, in Chernivtsi region and Kyiv – there was one divorce for every 2.7 marriages, in Odesa region – there was one divorce for 2.5 marriages.

In other regions there was one divorce for every two marriages on average in 2010.
