German expert and head of the Ukrainian office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Nico Lange was banned from entering Ukraine because of a threat of interference into the matters which lie within the domestic jurisdiction of Ukraine.
This is stated in a conclusion made by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine as a result of the checks requested by Ukraine’s first president Leonid Kravchuk.
As concerns the situation with an entry ban to German citizen Niko Lange, who heads the Ukrainian office of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the State Border Service was acting on the instructions of the Security Service of Ukraine, the conclusion reads.
The document explained that this decision was taken due to a threat of interference of foreign citizens into the matters which lie within the domestic jurisdiction of Ukraine.
"Thus, the incident didn’t entail any negative consequences for Ukraine internationally, since the Foreign Minister of Germany said in a statement dated July 5 that Berlin believes that the incident with Nico Lange is over, and takes it a as ‘a misunderstanding’," the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office said.
It was reported that head of the KAS office in Kyiv Nico Lange was held at the Boryspil Airport and barred from entering Ukraine on June 26. In his interview in early June Lange made critical remarks about changes that have occurred in Ukraine since Viktor Yanukovych came to power.
