Serhiy Tulub, the head of Cherkasy Regional Administration, has tendered his resignation.

"To avoid further confrontation in Cherkasy region and understanding the inevitability and necessity of changes in the executive government and local government system, I have made a balanced decision on ceding my powers as the head of Cherkasy Regional State Administration," says Tulub's statement posted on the regional administration's website on Tuesday.

Tulub said he remains a member of the Party of Regions.

It was reported earlier that prosecutors had notified Tulub that he was suspected of misappropriating government property.
