Georgiy Gongadze was born on May 21, 1969, in Tblisi, Georgia. He was murdered on Sept. 16, 2000, five months after he founded the hard-hitting Ukrainska Pravda news website. His beheaded body was found in a forest outside of Kyiv later that year. He and his wife, Myroslava Gongadze, a journalist with Voice of America in Washington, D.C., had twin daughters.
