Patriarch Kirill alarmed by 'revolutionary situation' in Ukraine
Moscow - The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, has expressed concern about the situation in Ukraine.
"I pray for Ukraine, I pray for that nation. I realize that there is a threat of the split of the nation. The threat of another round of civil confrontation. What we see now is a revolutionary situation," he said in a Tuesday interview with Russia-1 channel.
"A resolution is the liberation of passions" and its main goal is the change of elites, he said.
"And when clergymen appear on the barricades goading the people, it is not a church message," he said adding that in any circumstances the church should serve peace and unity.
The patriarch urged Ukrainians to dialogue that would help resolve existing problems.
