Invented in the U.S. after the terrorist attacks in September 2001, biometric identification systems have been successfully launched throughout the world, including Europe and most former Soviet states since 2006.

Starting next year, Ukrainians can get rid of their old Soviet-style passports and have them replaced with new plastic ID cards that make processing personal information easier and forgery of documents harder. 

Documents for traveling abroad will also be upgraded to fit requirements of the European Union.
