SBU says has 'unquestionable' evidence against suspected bombers
Investigators "have obtained unprecedented and unquestionable proof of the guilt" of four Ukrainians accused of this year's bombings in the Ukrainian cities of Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv and Zaporizhia, the chief investigator of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) said on Thursday, Aug. 30.
The accused made and tested their bombs in the three cities in 2010-2012, Ivan Derevyanko, the Security Service's chief investigator, told a news conference in Kyiv.
After their final attack in Dnipropetrovsk, the bombers sent letters to government agencies and media outlets demanding $4.5 million and were arrested in a sting operation in which the SBU transferred a sum of money to bank accounts indicated by them, Derevyanko said.
Evidence collected by the SBU included a video tape showing the accused planting a bomb and expert assessments that they had used some of the items seized from them in making their bombs.
