Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Social Policy Minister Sergiy Tigipko has promised that the government will continue improving social standards after the parliamentary elections in Ukraine.

"Preparations for presidential elections will start 9-12 months after the parliamentary elections. It's necessary to be completely politically suicidal to resort to this step [the cancellation of the social initiatives of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych]. We've made a promise, and we will fulfill our promise," he said live on the ICTV Channel late on June 18.

Tigipko said that starting from May 2012, 12.9 million retirees had received extra payments to their pensions and that the payment of compensation to the depositors of the former Soviet Sberbank had started. He said that the government would continue implementing all of these initiatives after the elections to the Verkhovna Rada.
