You're reading: Ukrainian authorities assure USAID Ukraine needs its assistance

Simferopol – The Ukrainian authorities have assured the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) that its work is important to Ukraine and should be continued, USAID Mission Director in Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova Jed Barton has said.

“I should say that when it was reported that USAID will not work in Russia, we had some concerns that we could face a similar situation in Ukraine in future. But we’ve already got quite serious and broad response from the Ukrainian authorities, representatives of the public sector, and other organizations who believe that Ukraine still needs assistance from the USAID and that our work here is still important,” he said at a press conference in Simferopol on Thursday.

“We should keep supporting these joint activities, determine Ukraine’s needs and solve these problems together,” he said.

He added that the issue of the possible increase of the organization’s budget for the implementation of projects in Ukraine has not been settled yet.

“There has been no final answer to this question,” he said.
