Yanukovych hopes new interior minister will step up fight against economic crimes

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said he hopes that after the appointment of the new interior minister the department will intensify its fight against economic crimes, while maintaining its earlier achievements in the law enforcement system.
While introducing the newly appointed minister - Vitaliy Zakharchenko - to the ministry's staff, the president noted that the he, Zakharchenko, has extensive experience of work in the Interior Ministry, and the Tax Service.

"This will certainly allow the Interior Ministry to pay more attention to economic crimes," Yanukovych said.

He also expressed the hope that all the previous achievements of the Interior Ministry would be preserved and improved.

As reported, on November 7, the president dismissed Zakharchenko from the post of the head of the State Tax Service and appointed him interior minister.

Zakharchenko was appointed head of the State Tax Service on December 27, 2010. Earlier, he held the position of the first deputy head of the State Tax Service.
