You're reading: Merkel believes Nord Stream’s expansion is possible

Stralsund (Germany) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel did not rule out the expansion of the Nord Stream gas pipeline at a press conference on Thursday for a meeting of government heads of the Council of Baltic States.

"If demand for such gas volume exists, it would be possible to expand this system," she said.

Merkel added that "of course, this would require additional approvals… but it is entirely possible."

The press conference was broadcast on the Rossiya-24 television channel.
