Officials: Deadly attack hits north Nigeria mosque
LAGOS, Nigeria — Officials say gunmen armed with rifles and machetes have attacked a mosque in north Nigeria, killing some worshippers.
The exact number of dead and injured in the attack Sunday morning at a mosque in Dogo Dawa, a village in Kaduna state, was not immediately clear. Kaduna state police spokesman Aminu Lawan said the attack happened, but details remained sketchy as the village is deep in the countryside away from the state capital. Police officers and soldiers cut off access to the area Sunday.
Activist Shehu Sani, who leads the Kaduna-based Civil Rights Congress, said it appeared the attack was between Muslim farmers and Muslim nomadic cattlemen who graze in the area. Tensions and violence spring up between the two groups, though not often with such an intensity.
