Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has demanded the parliamentary elections be held in accordance with democratic standards.

"As the head of state and the guarantor of the Constitution I demand that the elections be held in a fair fight, according to the law and the spirit of electoral legislation, in compliance with the principles of democracy and equality of participation in the electoral process," he said at the 13th congress of the Regions Party in Kyiv on Saturday.

Yanukovych noted that the new law on elections became an example of a broad political compromise and mutual understanding for everyone.
The president expressed conviction that all the election procedures would be followed.

He also noted that the election campaign should be organized as "a wide dialogue between politicians and voters."According to Yanukovych, the task of the dialogue is a search for a broad social consensus regarding the ways of Ukraine’s development.

The head of state stressed that the image of the country depends on the holding of the elections.The parliamentary elections in Ukraine are to be held in autumn 2012.
