Armenia will recognize independence of the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) if Azerbaijan breaches the ceasefire, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan has said.

“In case Azerbaijan stages another provocation and violates the ceasefire regime, Armenia will recognize Karabakh without doubt,” Kocharyan told reporters after a government meeting on Thursday.

He agreed with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s opinion that there was no alternative to the peaceful resolution of the Karabakh problem.

“Armenia definitely believes that there is no alternative to the peace process,” the Armenian deputy foreign minister said.
